harlem heights...{i'm really trying to like this show}...

ok...i've waited long enough. i must speak on it...HARLEM HEIGHTS is beginning to bother me.

when i first heard that there'd be an afican american show that was like the hills, i was beyond excited. i am a fan of reality tv and i am tired of watching the 'others' and what their version of everyday life is like. don't get me wrong, i love me some laguna beach, the hills, and the city. but harlem heights was something i just knew i could relate to! baldwin hills is cool, but the 'stars' on harlem heights seemed more mature and on my level. ha! i guess i had my hopes up a little too high.

the first episode, i had my fone in hand. i was ready to text and aim all of my girlfriends about the show as we watched. i even got my parents into the show. the whole first episode surrounding the obama victory was cool. it brought back memories and yes, i did get teary eyed. however, as the show went on, it seemed like these characters were...well, blah. they just didn't seem to have any zest or umph to them. now the fashion (of most characters) are on point, that was a plus. but the conversations and catty side bars were a drag. however, i said i wasn't going to give up on the show...i was gonna give in another chance.

well, after about three episodes, i am beginning to wonder why i am giving this shows ratings. first, the narrator of the show has thee most annoying voice (it's petty but hey, its the truth). then, homegirl bre has thee worst attitude, ever. she and her cousin, wanna-be keri hilson look alike who 'dated' kanye, are rather annoying. they are both too old to be acting the way they do. they have a problem with cast member, ashlie, an old friend who has been accused of acting funny after brooke 'dated' knaye...or maybe vice-versa, idk! but anyway, the issues they have are rather juvinile if you ask me. and these two shop, bottle pop, and gossip like there is NO TOMORROW. they just seem shallow and dense.

then there's ashlie, the no longer friend of brooke and bri. she has to be the only one on the show i like. i don't believe she graduated from college, but she seems to have a good head on her shoulders and seems to be unmoved by the pointless drama otehrs create. although she did kind of throw herself at christian during the first 2episodes, i can respect her. she's a woman that goes after what she wants. kudos to you ash! i also liked the way she handled the double date between she, christian, ally, and some random dude lamar. let me paint the picture for you;

they were all sitting around a small dinner table at some restaurant and any person with 1/2 a brain could tell that christian was uncomfortable from the beginning. they were conversing about relationships and what makes them work & fail. lamally (a nick name given to lamar & ally) was dominating the conversation. then, lamar proceeds to ask christian where he went to school. christian replies, 'morehouse'. lamar then asks, why he didn't go to a 'regular' college. that there was the icing on the cake for me. my eyebrow raised soooo high and my fingers began to text "what kinda question was that" to all my girlfriends who i knew were watching.

so as the show goes on, ashley confronts ally about the 'regular college' incident and ally seems to think it was ok to ask. no, it wasn't. if he wanted to ask something, he should've asked, what made you chose an hbcu? that is the proper way to ask the question. needless to say, ashlei was peeved, and she then went on to share the ignorant question with her two friends in the next scene. the two ladies, both graduates of spelman, had the same reaction as most...wth kind of question is that?!

lol, then at the end of the show, bri and brooke decided to grill christian about the double date and of course, they have negative thoughts. bre feels that ashlei isn't even on his level. she all but says it in her comment; "you deserve someone who does't sling drinks for a living". this coming from a grown woman who complains about having to train her interns! ugh...give me a break. she then proceeds to try to hook up brooke (her so called cousin) and chrsitina. HAHAH! what a snake. not to mention while they are having this discussion, they are walking down the streets of harlem draped in the finest clothes and rocking a face full of make-up....who does this?!?!? (this is soo staged if you ask me...but you didn't....lol)

there was also question as to why sides haven't been chosen between brooke & ashlie and other juvenile antics, and it just made me angry. it just seems like we're not making an effort as a people to chage they way we are (already) viewed. i will continue to watch the show because i want to see it get better, but right now, i don't have much hope. but watch it, you be the judge.

Whit, you know we are on the same page. I could not wait to text you during the show. First, from one African American woman to the next, why on earth would you go on national television and act so bitchy, so caddy so the rest of the world can say "told you so?" African American woman are always portrayed as "the bitch" on reality tv, but these heifers are just proving the stereotype to be true. The 3 B's as they call themselves, Brooke, Bri, and Bridget perpetuate drama constantly and never have anything positive to say out their mouth. Is bitchy supposed to be the new black? I think YES! I totally would have loved to see African American women getting along. To be honest, I think I would have been shocked if they had. I was proven right because this show is staying true to the stigma that we (black people) cannot get along with one another. These girls are so out of touch with reality. Whit, I cannot stand Bridget (the narrator's) voice either. She sounds like she is trying so hard to sound that way. It is as fake as her attitude and this show. Bri is too grown to start drama like she is in high school. Bridget needs to be happy that a guy like Pierre would give her the time of day. WTF, does she think Kanye is going to come crawling back to her? Good grief! Get a grip girl! I like Ashlie, but I don't know if I am basing that on the fact that I simply just can't stand the three B's. The guys are all cool except for Christian. Even though the random guy Lamar disrespected Christian and HBCU's, he is guilty by association because he really should have checked Bri and Brooke when they were talking all that trash about Ashlie. Wasn't Ashlie supposed to be his new special friend??? Ashlie took up for him, but he really did not say anything once Bri and Brooke started talking sideways out their mouth about her. I think that was very shady of him.

We have to do better!!!
